The Associated Press ran a story today about the University of Georgia’s quest to put an end to the moniker “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party”, in reference to the annual UGA/University of Florida football game in Jacksonville (slated for October 28th this year). President Michael Adams, concerned with UGA’s reputation as a party school and the safety of students in attendance during the game, has asked CBS and the City of Jacksonville not to promote the sporting event in conjunction with binge drinking.

However, CBS has made it clear that it’s well within its rights to market the game with that tag line and has done so in the past.

As a loyal Gator I have been to this awe inspiring event on many occassions since discovering the Holy Grail of universities in 1980 (I was an overachiever and started going to Hog-Town when I was in high school). I have witnessed and taken party in the World’s Largest Cocktail Party and feel it has toned down over the years and is now more hype than hooch!

So, is this much ado about nothing? Or, is the UGA President well within his rights to try and do what is best for his school’s image (lord knows it has to be humilating to lose the game time and time again, and not be able to hold your liquor)?

Look for my post on Monday morning October 30th for an depth report….

Your turn to speak.
